Activities, Events and Staff Movements

Brisbane

The Nexia Brisbane team are celebrating their 50th year in business! On the 1st of July 1970, Mr Richard ‘Dick’ Robertson opened a boutique accounting firm in Brisbane’s CBD. He grew the practice into a three partner firm which included his son Ken and then retired as managing partner in 1989.

Upon his retirement, the practice was then taken over by Ken, daughter-in-law Ann-Maree, and good friend Tony Thomas.  The practice has changed names multiple times, however the family-owned roots remain the same.  Our Brisbane team are looking forward to celebrating their next milestone in years to come and are extremely proud to be a part of the Nexia Australia family.

Christchurch

Christchurch are experiencing growth in their Audit Division which has resulted in an opportunity for three of our Business Services staff to move into Audit on a permanent basis. Congratulations to Nathan Breckell, Christchurch’s Audit Director, for all his hard work and dedication in growing the division. This is exciting both for the growth in audit, and for the opportunity that it gives staff to broaden their experience.

Melbourne

Our Melbourne firm has taken the opportunity to embrace technology in these uncertain and remote working times, both for their own team members as well as assisting clients to become more technologically savvy. In addition to their enhanced technology capabilities, they have also increased team communication and collaboration through more touchpoints. Even happy hour celebrations on a Friday night have taken on a new meaning with electronic games being played as they enjoy refreshments virtually.

Sydney

Our Sydney Office are pleased to announce the appointment of their new Nexia Sydney Group Non-Executive Independent Chairman, Mr Stephen Purcell. This appointment comes after the recent change of corporate structure to Nexia Sydney Group.

Stephen joins Sydney with a wealth of experience and knowledge, with 20 years’ experience in leading professional services firms, including three successful CEO and Managing Partners roles in law and accounting firms. Stephen has a reputation as an inspiring leader with strong values, for being a “people person” and for getting things done.

Stephen holds a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Economics and was admitted and practised as a solicitor for many years before taking on professional services firm leadership roles. Stephen is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, non-executive director of the parent company for the business known as The Executive Connection and is a member of the NSW Regional Council for Redkite, the children’s cancer charity.

The Board of Directors sincerely thank Ian Stone for holding the position of chairman for the last six years and thank him for his considerable contributions over this time. As per previous correspondence Ian was appointed Chairman of Nexia International on 2 November 2019 and we wish him every continued success in this exceptional role.

Nexia Day 2020

Wednesday 22 July 2020 saw our fourth international Nexia Day with more than 19,000 staff members participating and delivering activities around the globe.

This year, we chose to celebrate our enduring relationships; within our network, with our staff and with our clients.

As part of these celebration, throughout Australia and New Zealand, we participated in a virtual celebration with more than 130 colleagues from across our Asia Pacific Region. Some of our firms across the network also;

  • held virtual coffee catch ups with colleagues and clients,
  • ran a ‘spread kindness’ challenge where staff were encouraged to do something kind  for a colleague, client or in the community,
  • held a virtual presentation and getting to know new member firms in the network, and
  • organised small tokens of appreciation delivered to staff who are still working form home.

Nexia Day is a great way for everyone to get involved and celebrate the strengths of our network, wherever they are. With many of our teams still working from home, this year's Nexia Day truly demonstrated that.
